Ihu Special Economic Zone project management will be engaging with all landowners within the project boundary to identify and discuss land matters
The Ihu Special Economic Zone land development partnership program team will be conducting landowner consultations on land related matters with impacted landowners within the Special Economic Zone Land Boundaries from December 10 -15th at Harevavo Village in Kikori District, Gulf Province.
These consultations is to basically bring all landowners with interests to any land portions within the Economic Zone Boundaries together and to identify, discuss and resolve any differences amongst themselves as to ownership rights and land boundaries. “This ensures that the right people sign Land access agreements that may be entered into. This shall minimize any future disputes. This step and other procedures are necessary for conversion of customary land into state lease. The landowners must be fully aware of this important process.” Mr. Tony Auvita, ISEZ Land Development Partnership Program Team Leader.
“All SEZ projects around the world are developed on state land as it guarantees project tenure, sustainability and success. SEZs developments or any major project development requiring Foreign Direct Investment is not feasible on Customary Land. Customary Land held by landowners in the project area needs to be converted into bankable state titles,” says Mr. Auvita
