Ihu Special Economic Zone Project Office farewells first of many lawyer trainee
The Ihu Special Economic Zone (ISEZ) Project Management Office farewells a Legal Training Institute (LTI) trainee after a three-week training program with the project management office.
The UPNG Law graduate Miss Kapili Tegele (sitting middle) has been engaged in various sectors of the ISEZ project, familiarizing herself with project planning, organizing, and steps and procedures to develop a new SEZ project, covering every aspect of a development cycle.
ISEZ Managing Director Peter Kengemar thanked Miss Tegele for her contributions to the project running programs, working directly under ISEZ lawyer, Ms. Olto Thomas.
"This is the first of many more LTI trainee lawyers who shall gain experience in SEZ concepts and will be directly exposed to a SEZ project such as ISEZ," says Mr Kengemar.
Mr. Kengemar further stated the importance of having law graduates being part of the ISEZ office because it is a new project concept by Marape – Rosso Government.
"A lot of legal work has to be done for the project to be developed accordingly to meet and comply with the new SEZA Act 2019 and Policy locally, but it is also very important to meet international requirements as well to attract Foreign Direct Investment into the SEZ projects nationwide," says Mr Kengemar.
ISEZ acknowledges that building its first relationship with a partner such as LTI is very important to the projects development as ISEZ is a brand-new concept in the country and a lot of work needs to be done around the legal, legislative, policy and regulations component of the Special Economic Zones program.
"We believe that training SEZ legal experts is a need for this country, and we are happy to facilitate for LTI,” says Mr. Kengemar.
The ISEZ project is in phase two of the four phase program and is open and will engage with more youths to be part of the project development team in the coming years.
