After a week-long workshop with ISEZ management, the Community Liaison Officers, Ward Councillors and SME reps had the opportunity to meet with Kikori Member and Minister, Hon. Soroi Eoe for lunch on Friday.
The purpose of the lunch was for Minster to meet his local people, especially the new CLOs to encourage and advise them about their importance of being in the ISEZ team and gave an insight on the purpose of the project.
Minister Eoe spoke in detail about the project, he gave insights of how the idea of the project came to be, what made him initiate the project in the very beginning, and why he will keep pushing the ISEZ project forward.
“I want you all to take ownership of this project, some of us might not benefit from it but we want to make sure the next generation and the one after benefit. I didn’t give up after my first attempt in elections in 2012 because I know how my people live, and I want to do something to give them hope. So that is why after a successful 2017 election when I took office, I immediately brought this SEZ idea in so all of my people can benefit, it is a tool to bring socio economic development in, apart from the KDDA program,” said Minister Eeo.
Minister also thanked ISEZ project managing director Peter Kengemar and his team who also were present, stating that Mr. Kengemar has been around with him from the beginning, starting the idea when Minister wasn't a member of Parliament.
Mr. Kengemar also acknowledged Minster Eoe’s hard work to continuously keep this National Government funded project alive at the top level and also thanked him for always make his time available for his people and the project.
Minister and his team will continuously facilitate and provide support to the ISEZ project office, knowing that this project is very crucial for the people in the district, province and the country.
The CLOs, ward councillors and SME rep leaders will be heading back to the village. Minster Eoe encouraged them to continue work hard, spread awareness and educate everyone in the village about the importance of the project, and to make themselves and their land available for the project to continue phase 2 and 3.
ISEZ is now in the process of establishing the first project site selected at Aivei. The project wishes to spend its first Christmas with the people in Kikori.
