ISEZ engages with SMEC to start pre-feasibility studies to potentially supply over 100 megawatts of hydro power from Vailala river into ISEZ project site.
The Ihu special Economic Zone (ISEZ) management office had a discussion today with Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) about SMEC taking lead in the engineering aspects of the hydro power plant that will be located at the head of Vailala river, which is planned to generate over 100 megawatts of power into ISEZ project site in Ihu, Kikori District.
The discussions involved ISEZ Managing Director, Peter Kengemar, ISEZ Land Mobilisation team leader, Tony Auvita, Operation Manager & Director – SMEK PNG LTD, Simon Tundua, and SMEK Civil Engineer - Hydropower, Sujan Ghimire.
ISEZ is thankful to work with such a high calibre reputable company that is globally known and has achieved many projects around the world.
Currently ISEZ is structuring documents to indicate its interests to engage with SMEC for them to take lead in pre – feasibility studies for the selected site.
SMEC is excited to bring their expertise into such an innovative project and are looking forward to working with ISEZ.
Further discussions of logistics and planning of the pre - feasibility studies will be held after all necessary documents is approved.
ISEZ management also gave an insight to the projects status, which included Land Mobilisation updates, EIS updates, and an overview of the whole project plans going forward.
